How to Sharpen our Intuition

Our life is speaking to us in whispers, but are we listening?

Sometimes it’s a physical feeling, or a series of coincidences, patterns repeating such as in relationships or a recurring illness. We often brush these things off as “coincidences”, the inconsiderate behaviour of others or sometimes we’re just too busy to even notice!

But these are not coincidences.

Our life is trying to tell us something.

Perhaps we’re so busy with work and family life that we’re not able to take care of our health or we’re so committed to meeting the expectations of others that we don’t meet our own emotional and physical needs.

Perhaps we’re so used to feeling stressed, overwhelmed and exhausted that it’s the norm and we don’t realise anything is out of whack!

So how do we tune into life’s gentle nudges?

It starts by creating a little space, a little time, even 5 minutes, where we don’t have to be somewhere, do something or fix anything. 5 minutes to just be. Be what? Be still. Be calm. Permission to be you.

I know it seems hard to find even 5 minutes these days, but this is because we’re stuck in this culture of putting everyone’s demands and needs ahead of our own. Yet if we can find 2 minutes twice a day to brush our teeth, we can find 5 extra minutes to close our eyes, breath and listen in!

It won’t happen straight away, but over time if we practise this regularly we’ll find that life is speaking to us all the time, nudging us forward, in the direction of what helps us to grow and learn and feel good. It will also give us that uneasy feeling when something isn’t serving us.

Sometimes all we need is a mini break – a few moments to shift out of “doing” mode and just “be”; to take our responsible, productive hat off and be playful, relaxed and dare I say, lazy! 😂

Sometimes, bigger shifts are required – like changes in our health routines or relationships, letting go of patterns which are no longer serving is – being brave enough to believe with all your heart that you’re worthy of more and being courageous enough to ask for it.

Relationships don’t need to end to change. You may be surprised by what can be achieved when you’re brave enough to speak from your heart, be willing to show vulnerability and say how you feel.

We all make so many assumptions about what other people are thinking (or not thinking!), that sometimes we create great distances just by keeping our hurts to ourselves.

I believe with all my heart that each of us has good intentions and we’re all doing the best we can. We sometimes forget that other people share the same doubt, hurts, shame and longing to be loved and accepted.

At the end of the day, we’re all bumbling along, doing the best we can in our own imperfect way in this crazy messed up, but beautiful life.

So embrace it all. Listen to the whispers and enjoy being imperfect wonderful you!
